This month, I’m participating in WordPress’s 30-Day Blog Challenge which means I’ll be posting or doing a new task to make MommyEnnui better every day. (See how positive and proactive I am in 2014?) The challenge is geared toward new bloggers, so some of the things I’ve already taken care of, like writing an “About Me” page and coming up with a name for the blog so I may be playing fast-and-loose with the rules a bit, but you’d expect that of me anyway, wouldn’t you?
I’m getting a bit of a late start, so I’ll be doing a little catch-up. The first day’s challenge was to write a page telling you who I am and why I started this blog. You may or may not have already checked out my About page (if you haven’t, you may do so now…I’ll wait). Short and sweet, but you get the idea.
I feel like I owe you more, though, so I’ve compiled this photo gallery in an effort to give you a more complete picture of what everyday life is like at Casa MommyEnnui. I hope you enjoy monotony and minutia. I mean, who doesn’t, right?

- My house looks like a girl-bomb went off inside.
- Even Buddha has been unable to hold off the onslaught of pink fluff and macaroni necklaces.
- I drink too much tea and spend too much time on Pinterest.
- In fact, with a blog and a husband in new media advertising, computers have taken over my entire existence.
- I love to cook. (Except for weeknight dinners. Ugh!) My spice collection is vast and somewhat alphabetized thanks to Ad Man.
- Don’t be too impressed, though. This is how he puts his clothes away.
- I feed Biggie and Smalls only homemade, gourmet meals.
- I also love to read and am mildly obsessive-compulsive.
- I recently pulled out my old vinyl collection and gave it to my 13 year-old neighbor. His mom, my friend A, had to explain that you must flip the record over to hear the second half of the album. I aged approximately 15 years that day.
- My friends are much more talented than I am. http://www.lauraplansker.com/
- Our house is full of their artwork. http://www.stevendewall.com/
- I miss California. Can you tell?
- Sometimes I have a hard time making decisions.
- After 6 years, my house remains in a constant state of un-done-ness.
- Occasionally, Ad Man and I do wild things in our bedroom like letting the kids help paint the walls.
- My daughters are cute.
- But, sometimes they make me feel like this. (‘Study for the Head of a Screaming Pope,’ Francis Bacon, 1952)
I feel like our relationship is deeper and more fulfilling already. Don’t you? I promise, in 2014, I will continue to share far more about myself than you could possibly want to know. Now, I want to know more about you! Please comment with at least one random fact about yourself and I promise to forever hold it close to my heart. Unless, of course it’s super embarrassing, in which case I’ll most likely laugh my ass off and tell everyone I know. I’m good like that.
Random fact about me – I collect Hard Rock Cafe guitar pins. I’m not sure how many I have, but everywhere I travel, I always try to find the Hard Rock Cafe – not for the food (it isn’t that good), but for the merchandise! Somewhere I also have some old Planet Hollywood pins. I was collecting them before they went down the tubes.
The next time I’m in some exotic locale, I’ll have to track down the nearest Hard Rock Cafe’ for you, Ron. Just a warning…you could be waiting a looooong time! Maybe I should have Ad Man do it instead. 😉
Great post! My favorite random fact about myself is that my grandpa fed me beer as a baby. I still turned out pretty okay, I think.
I was a toddler beer drinker myself, Gabriele. Apparently, I would waddle around the room sneaking sips from my Dad and uncles’ been cans. Explains a lot about us, I think. 😉
Hmmm… So many interesting facts. My dad is a retired race car driver. When I was a kid, we’d go to the track every Saturday night to watch him race. To save my wee kiddie hearing, he’d put Marlboro cigarette filters (I feel I need to comment that they were unsmoked) in my ears. True story of a redneck upbringing. 🙂
That is AWESOME, Mel! You couldn’t write a redneck story better than that!!
My random fact: I am 42 years old and still have two baby teeth. I love your blog! You have such an easygoing style.
Thank you so much, Stephanie!!
Bummed that I have no good random facts! I guess my random fact that people who know me casually might not expect is that I am almost unbelievably gullible. Not about stuff like alien abductions, but stories people tell from their own lives. I would believe nearly anything that’s physically and mechanically possible.
Less random is that I am stoked to see Francis Bacon, one of my all time favorite painters. Classing up the joint!
That’s good to know, Sarvi. Now I can just post any random shit and you’ll believe it. That could definitely come in handy someday. 😉
I, too, lived in Atlanta. That you knew. However, I bet you didn’t know I was a vegetarian during my one year stint living in Virginia Highlands! I used to go to this awesome taco joint called Tortillas and order bean and potato burritos, delish!
Once the airline I worked for went out of business, I found myself in Detroit where fellow herbivores were at a minimum. Sick of ordering dinner salads with ranch dressing….I caved and started eating meat again.
I always forget that you lived here! And, I had no idea you were a vegetarian. I thought being veg in the South, home of BBQ, was going to be difficult, but there are lots of great vegetarian and veg-friendly restaurants. Imagine that! It’s not the backwater town I’d always assumed growing up in the North! 😉
I’m an Atlanta native who returned home after living in Southern California for 8 years, and I just (15 mins ago) discovered your blog: hilarious! Had to share your Summer Camp for Moms on my mostly self-ignored facebook page.
Anywho, here’s my random fact:
I have no disposable organs left. Tonsils, wisdom teeth, appendix, uterus, gallbladder… all gone. Granted, there are less complicated ways to lose weight, but this works for me.
Hi Mary! Sounds like we’re kindred spirits. I love your random fact! Best so far, I’d have to say. Take care of the rest of those organs!! Thanks for reading. xo
Gracias, Amiga!
